![]() ![]() The new Microsoft Surface Pro is the most notable rival to the Samsung Galaxy Book. The model we tested with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD costs $1,330. Pricing of the 12-inch Samsung Galaxy Book kicks off at $1,129 for a variant with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Most were also present in last year's Galaxy TabPro S as well. With the competition in this premium price range getting better and better, we find it odd that Samsung didn't address some of the above shortcomings. However, the device's all-plastic body without a built-in kickstand, slightly underwhelming keyboard cover, and a rather pedestrian battery life leave a little to be desired. For the time being, the tablet is also the only Windows 10 device in its class you can order with LTE connectivity (the Surface Pro will get the feature later this year). Its excellent Super AMOLED display, bundled keyboard and S Pen stylus, and close integration with compatible Samsung smartphones also set the tablet apart from its competitors. The Samsung Galaxy Book delivers a huge leap in performance compared to its predecessor. Samsung promises up to 11 hours of video playback on a single charge, though, to be honest, this is not a criteria which you should be using to buy such a device. We averaged between six and seven hours of mixed use on a battery charge, which is far from great. The device's battery life left a bit to be desired. In short, it will deliver enough hardware oomph for most users out there. It easily handled a multitude of browser tabs, playing Spotify, running Affinity photo editor with several large image files open, and constantly refreshing a Twitter feed. The Samsung Galaxy Book variant with Intel Core i5 CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of memory we tested delivered excellent performance. It allows you to easily create notes and sketches in every way imaginable, and even make your own GIF animations. The S Pen Air command interface on the other hand, has been lifted directly from the tech Samsung's Android devices. You can also unlock the tablet with your phone's fingerprint sensor, thus partially making up for the lack of Windows Hello login support. Samsung Flow allows you to receive messages from your Samsung smartphone on the Galaxy Book. They include close integration with compatible Galaxy phones, a handy suite of S Pen tools, and a dedicated settings menu for the Super AMOLED display. Samsung has also added a number of enhancements to the OS. ![]() The Galaxy Book runs Windows 10, so you can install apps and software on it just like you would on any other laptop or desktop PC. Coupled with Samsung's software, it's one of the best of its kind. The accessory looks and feels like a pen and doesn't need recharging. The S Pen stylus of the Galaxy Book is the same as the one found in the Galaxy Tab S3. However, it's nowhere near as good as the Microsoft Surface Pro's. To sum things up, the keyboard cover of the Galaxy Book is a tad better than the one that came bundled with the tablet's predecessor. The latter has well-spaced backlit keys that deliver nice feedback, but we wish its trackpad were a tad larger.Īlso, even though it works great on a table or another hard surface, the accessory feel flimsy when you try to use it in your lap. Unfortunately, the tablet lacks a dedicated camera sensor for logging in via Windows Hello facial recognition.Įvery 12-inch Samsung Galaxy Book comes bundled with an S Pen stylus and magnetic keyboard cover. There's a front-facing 5MP camera and a 13MP snapper on the back in case you feel like taking photos with a giant tablet. The tablet's wired connectivity options include a duo of USB-C ports - you can use either one to recharge its battery via the bundled fast charger. There's also a variant of the slate of 4G LTE connectivity for Verizon Wireless - it's only available with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage for the time being. In addition to Bluetooth and speedy Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, the 12-inch Galaxy Book also has a built-in GPS. You can expand the device's storage further via a microSD card slot. ![]() The former features a 128 GB SSD, while the latter comes equipped with a larger 256 GB storage drive. Overall, the Galaxy Book, just like the model it replaces, is a contender for having the best display in its class.Įvery 12-inch Samsung Galaxy Book comes with a seventh-generation Intel Core i5 processor - depending on the configuration, the CPU is paired with 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM. ![]() With 2,160 by 1,440 pixels, the display is also plenty sharp, as well as capable of displaying HDR content. Featuring the same technology as the company's great high-end smartphones, the display delivers incredibly vibrant colors, infinite contrast, and excellent viewing angles. Samsung more than makes up for the above with the 12-inch Super AMOLED screen it equipped the Galaxy Book with. ![]()
